Biography
Paul studied law at Queen’s University, Belfast before completing a Masters Degree at the College of Europe, Bruges. He qualified as a solicitor in Northern Ireland in 1993 and in England in 1997.
He is the head of both our Industrial Disease and Clinical Negligence Departments. He specialises in industrial disease litigation, particularly claims for asbestos related mesothelioma and lung cancer. He has dealt with hundreds of such claims over the years in industries such as dockyards, power stations, railways, construction, shipping and schools.
He feels privileged to represent people suffering from these devastating illnesses and their families and to achieve financial security for them. His aim always is to ensure that his clients receive the best possible compensation payment in the shortest period of time.
He provides training and speaks at conferences and seminars on issues relating to industrial disease litigation. Paul works closely with asbestos support groups and acts for trades unions and private clients nationally.
Secured £375,000 for Ms C the unmarried partner of a carpenter/joiner who died from mesothelioma after having been exposed to asbestos in the construction industry using asbestos sheets for soffits and asbestolux to line airing cupboards.
Secured £200,000 for Mr W who was diagnosed with mesothelioma having previously been exposed to asbestos at a builders merchants when handling deliveries of asbestos products.
Won at trial £97,000 for Ms S whose father died from pleural thickening after working in maintenance at a factory which had asbestos lagged boilers and pipes and asbestos roofing.
Secured £30,000 provisional damages for Mr D who developed asbestosis after working in power stations with the London Transport Executive and CEGB where he carried out repairs to asbestos lagged pipes and boilers.
Secured £213,000 for Mrs C after her husband died from mesothelioma. He had been exposed at a chemical company when laggers worked beside him lagging pipes.
Secured £18,500 provisional damages for Mr M who was diagnosed with asbestosis after exposure to asbestos as a marine engineer lagging pipes and boilers on board ships.
Secured £263,000 for Mr S who was diagnosed with mesothelioma after exposure to asbestos while working as a joiner at a local council.
Secured £205,000 for Ms S following her father’s death from mesothelioma. He had worked for a local council repairing and replacing asbestos roofs.
Paul is a Fellow of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers. He is a member of Unite the Union, The Labour Party and the Haldane Society of Socialist Lawyers.
